How colourful is your plate?
Our theory is that if you base your meal around highly nutritious ingredients, and seek a variety of colour and texture in your dishes, you are on the path to a healthy lifestyle.
It just doesn’t have to be more complicated than that.
We also feel that, with so many people sharing the struggle of coming up with meal ideas daily, there has to be some way to build on the experiences of others in order to simplify the meal planning process.
The Colourful Dish is a shared food planning experience that enables its readers to test out, share, and compile a go-to library of nutritious and easy recipes.
Your hosts
This site was created by Laura Spragge and Lisa Haggis. After countless hours talking about food and comparing meal ideas, we decided to channel that energy into something that would make life easier for ourselves, and others too.
Lisa’s Food Philosophy: I try to turn all of life’s difficult decisions (like ‘What’s for supper’?) into a system that maximizes efficiency without completely taking the fun out of life. I believe that any food that is good for you is worth trying your best to love. After many years of focusing on keeping fat and calories low, I finally realized that eating is about nourishing your body for health, not appearance.
Laura’s Food Philosophy: I remember getting off the plane with my mom to visit my dad in Toronto when I was about six, and shortly thereafter asking him with my french-accent “What kind of cuisine are we having tonight?” The accent may be gone, but my attitude towards food has remained the same. Food has always been a means to bring friends and family together and is often the centre of great conversation. I’m a strong believer in eating foods you like that are rich in flavour and texture. Healthy food doesn’t mean it needs to be boring or bland, it’s about finding that balance!
